MELBOURNE MARKETS,
M'Grcgor, Honion ami Co report for the week cmUn.tr March 80, 1881 : B-eadstuffs.—The lirm tone of tbc London market, lias materially influenced prices here. Prime shipping parcels wheat (which are scarce) are in good demand at 4s 3d to 4a 3.\d with an upward tendency. During this” week we have sold good milling, ex station, at 4s 2d to 4s 24d ; medium, at 3s 11 to 4s f’Jd. The local enquiry is brisk, and supplies from country stations are rapidly falling off. Fleur has advanced to £8 17s 6d and £9, and the demand is good. Barley.—English remains without alteration, 3 s 3d to 3s 4£d is given for prime parcels ; Cape and Oregon arc in better request. We have sold good at 2s 5d to 2s (id.
Oats are improving in price daily. We have sold sfout feed at 2s 8A I to 2s 9d cx store ; Tartarian seed, 2s lid to 3s; Viclorian raiding at 2s IOJd to 2s lid; also 1400 bushels medium feed at 2s 4Jd ; and 1300 bushels good New Zealand Milling, ex steamer, in bond, at 2s sld. The demand for the latter is brisk, and' competition is keen.
Maize is unaltered at 4s 4d to 4s sd. Bran is at IOJd, Hops—Good Gippsland are in request at advanced rales.
Grass seeds—The absence of arrivals of Cocksfoot Ims caused the price to remain firm at 3j|d to 4d ; no importations from New Zealand have yet reached this market.
Dairy Produce. —Cheese : We have sold good at 4d to 4|d, medium 3d to 3|d ; the demand for good and prime is much improved, and during the week we have sold over four tons, and onr stocks are light. Butter, Potted.—We have sold this day prime'new at Bd, prime old is in demand at 6|d to 7;]d ; medium and inferior are difficult to quit. Fresh Butter. —Supplies continue light ; we sold the best dairies to-day at la to Is 4d per lb; medium at 7d to Bd. The demand for parcels in good condition is brisk, and we cannot supply the trade’s requirements. Bacon.—Wc have sold 250 sides at 6d to 6Jd, according to quality.
