The death is announced on the Gold Coast of Captain Claud Bettington.who served as a volunteer in the New Zea land war ; and during the Zulu campaign commanded a small irregular force under General Newdegate. lie received the C.M.G.-ship for his services during the Zulu war. Captain Bettington was at one time connected with the police force in Canterbury. A London publishing firm are about to publish the secrets of the ‘‘agony column ”of the “ Times.” A lady who has studied the column for the first seventy years of this century, and has found a key to most of the ciphers, has written out her discoveries in full, and they will be published shortly under the title of '* The Agony Column from JBOO to I 860.”
