MESSRS BUNNY AND BEETHAM AT CARTERTON.

Carterton, April 11
Messrs Bunny and Beetham addressed a fairly attended meeting of their constituents to-night. Mr Bunny advocated a property and income tax and duties on luxuries. He only would reduce the Education vote £IO,OOO, and make those who desired to go above the fourth standard pay. He condemned the railway management and -advocated giving discretionary powers to managers. Hr 1 entirely supported Mr Biyce’s action. He was adverse to a county system, and thought a modified form of provincialism would have to bo resorted to. He advocated the loan of a million for roads and bridges. The present government had the conli I once of the country. He hoped Government would only bring down a few Bills, and would stick to them. He supported the WellingtonFoxlon railway.
Mr Bectham next spoke agreeing with Urn most of Mr Bunny’s remarks on education (except that ho would give free education only to the third standard) Custom duties and i ail way management hut di.-agreed with him as to Mr Bryce’s action, as it would have involved them in a costly war. He saw- no fault in the county system except a want of funds. Next session they would find that free trade and protection would crop up, and he would vote for free trade. A vote of thanks was carried.
