Accidents and Offences. Auckland, April 11

Two railway employees, named Gray and Jolly, were shooting at Waikato when Gray, sighting some game, stood up to fire. The boat lurched, and the gun exploding discharged its contents, blowing away the back of Joily’s head, killing him instantly. Joseph Hill, residing at the Commercial Hotel, accidentally took a poisonous lotion instead of medicine. A doctor was called and by prompt measures averted serious consequences. At the Police Court lo day, W. L. Rees, solicitor of Gisborne,and formerly M.H.R., commenced a series of criminal proceedings for libel, against J. D. Wickham, editor of the “ Free Lance.” Defendant asked for an adjournment which was granted till Thursday. A little boy, son of J. K. McDonald, Government Insurance agent, Hamilton, fell into the Waikato river and was drowned.

Arrival of the WakatipuWellington, April 11. Arrived—Wakatipu from Sydney. She left Sydney on the afternoon of April 5, and had light winds and fine weather across, arriving here at 7.30 last night. The Grand Jury found true bills against Downes, on the charge of tampering with the stamping of deeds. A Fatal Fight. Blenheim, April 11. News was brought into Picton yesterday that a murder had been committed at Waihawa. The facts to hand are that Rawera Kepa quarrelled with his uncle, Ropoawa Peniepene. They had two successive fights on Saturday night. In the last fight Pene became insensible, and he died on Sunday afternoon at four o’clock. The police immediately proceeded to the spot and arrested Rawera at 12 30 this morning. He was found hid in a hay loft and very downcaste. Jealousj' is said to have been the cause of the fight. Dunedin Criminal Sessions Dunedin, April 11. J. Mack, larceny ; 11. Potter, larceny ; and William Everest, borough clerk, at Hampden, embezzlement, were each sentenced to two years.
