A blind mendicant in Paris wears this inscription round his neck : “ Don’t be ashamed to give only a sou. I can’t see.” It was a dying democrat who asked his friend to send him some one to prepare him for the future; and his friend sent him a fire insurance agent. It is said if you sit down when assailed by a ferocious dog the beast will not touch you. But the judicious man will select as high a seat as possible—at the top of a tall tree, for example.
