Mr Thomas Brassy, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, has just given to Hastings a reference library, at a cost of between two and three thousand pounds. The New Zealand Engineer Corps endeavored to blow up the old hulk Camille, sunk in Wellington harbour. Two barrels of blasting powder (of about 2501bs each), were exploded and shattered the upper timbers a good deal though the heavy timbers of the hull were not broken up. The large sum of £lOlO has been placed in the Savings Bank to the eredit of 103 children in the Industrial Home Dunedin, the amounts varying from a few pounds up to £79 2s 9d. There has been £56 Is 5d paid away to four young women (previous inmates of the School) who had got married during the year.
