First Day. 1 p.m. — Trial Stakes of 50 sovs, for horses that have not won 200 sovs in one event, or two events, each of the value of 100 sovs or upwards, up to the time of starting. Entrance, 2 sovs. Maidens at starting allowed—for three-year-olds, 31bs; four years, 71bs; five years and upwards, lOlbs. Weight for age. Distance, about 1J miles. 1.45 p.m.—Sires’ Produce Stakes, of 80 sovs; distance, 6 furlongs. Colts, Bst lOlbs; fillies, Bst 51bs. Starters to pay a sweep of 5 sovs to go to the second horse. 2.30 p.m.—Timaru Cup, a handicap of 200 sovs, with a sweepstake of 5 sovs for acceptors; amount accruing from the sweep to go to the second horse; nomination, 2 sovs; acceptance, 4 sovs ; distance, If miles. 3.45 p.m.—Flying Handicap, of 50 sovs; nomination, 1 sov ; acceptance, 1 sov; distance | of a mile, 4.30 p.m. — Selling Hack Race, of 50 sovs, presented by M. Jonas, Esq., 30 sovs to go to the first horse and 20 sovs to the second horse, both first and second horses to be sold and the entire proceeds to go to the race fund; distance, 1J miles; no weight under 9flt entrance, 1 sov. Post entries. SECOND DAY. 1 p.m.—S. C. Jockey Club Handicap, of 100 sovs., with a sweepstake of 5 sovs. for acceptors ; amount accruing from the sweepstake to go to second horse ; nomination,2 sovs.; acceptance 2 sovs. ; distance, 1£ miles. The winner of the Timaru Cup to carry 71bs penalty. 1.45 p.m.—-Handicap Hurdle Race, of 80 sovs. ; distance about 2| miles ; over 8 flights of hurdles ; nomination, 1 sov. : acceptance, 2 sovs. ; second horse to receive £lO out of the stakes, 3 p.m. — Selling- Hack Hurdle Bach, of 20 sovs. ; distance, 1£ miles ; no weight under lOst. The”winner to be sold by auction, any surplus over 20 sovs. to go to the fund. Post entry, 1 sov, 3.45 p.m— Winter Oats Handicap, of 50 sovs ; distance, miles ; nomina tion, 1 sov ; acceptance, 2 sovs. Weight to be declared after S.C,J.C. Handicap; acceptances after the Hurdle Race. 4.30 p.m.—Consolation Handicap, 30 sovs ; post entry, 1 sov ; distance 1 mile. RULES AND REGULATIONS. Nominations for the Timaru Cup, Flying Handicap, S.C.J.C. Handicap, Hurdle Race, and Winter Oats Handicap to he made to the Secretary not later than Friday, March 18, at 8 p.m. Weights to be out on Thursday, April 21. Acceptances, with sweep and general entries, up to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 25. No entry will be received for any of the races except upon this condition—that all disputes, claims, and objections arising out of the racing, shall be decided by a majority of the Stewards present, or those whom they may appoint. Their decisions upon all points connected with the carrycarrying out of this programme shall be final. All entries and acceptances must be ic sealed covers, addressed to the Secretary Grosvenor Hotel, Timaru, and contain entrance money, sweepstakes, qualification fee, description, age, and name of horse, and colors to be worn by the jockey. Qualification fee to be enclosed with the nomination, or the nomination will be invalid. South Canterbury Jockey Club Rules will be strictly adhered to. In Hurdle races horses to qualify by jumping hurdle past judge’s box. No person to enter a horse unless he is a subscriber of £2 2s to the fund, and no person to nominate unless both owner and nominator be subscribers of the same amount. In the event of any person entering a protest, the sum of £2 2s must be lodged with the Secretary before such protest is considered, this sum to be forfeited to the funds should the Stewards consider the protest frivolous or vexatious. Five per cent will be deducted from the gross of all moneys paid in accordance with the programme, for expenses ; and when not otherwise specified, all entries and acceptances to go to the funds. B.
