MELBOURNE PRODUCE MARKET.
M'Gregor, Gordon and Co. report for the week ending 9th March, 1881 ; Breadstufiis. —Prime shipping wheat has advanced to ,4s Id to 4s 1-Jd f.o.b. and is difficult to obtain at these rates. Daring the week we have sold 3,500 bushels ex Spencer street .at 4s for prime shipping parcels ; prime milling at 3s lid. The careless manner a large proportion of this year’s crop has been cleaned continues apparent by the large rejections by the exporters. Flour is at £S 10& to £8 12s 6d net ex station, and at the latter figure we have sold 25 tons,
Barley.—With regard to English we have no alteration* to report; 3s to 3s 4d are the ruling prices, according to quality. Cape, Oregon, and inferior English for feeding purposes we have sold at 2s 14d to 2s 4d. Oats.—The sinall quantity of Victorian offering, together with the total absence of any from New Zealand, ■ have created a brisk demand for the latter (in bond) at 2s did to 2s sd, For medium Victorian we have obtained 2s 5d to 2s 7id.
Seed.—Good Tartarian are scarce; We have closed for a few parcels at 2s 7d to 2s Bd, Peas—For the London market we have sold at 2s 7d, Beans, 3s 2£d. Maize is steadier at 3s Bd. Grass Seeds. —We have closed for cocksdelivery. Prairie is scarce, so is a good sample of white clover. Rye grass , well cleaned and a heavy grain is readily saleable at 3s Gd, Tobacco Leaf—ln demand at 3£d and (JJd according to quality. Dairy Produce. —Cheese —We have to report a material improvement in prime at 4gd, good at 4d, medium at 2gd to 3d, inferior is unsaleable at any price—the tone of the market for good to prime is firmer. .
Potted Butter.—First class private dairies we sold to-day at 6d to 7d, medium, 4d to 5d ; storekeepers parcels at 44d. Fresh Butter. —The supplies from the country were smaller to-day than they have been for many months, we obtained Is 2d per lb for lines in good condition, aod for medium to good, 7d to lOd. Honey.~We cleared our stock of medium garden at bush at 3d,, the demand is good. Eggs.—Supplies are most inadequate to thq demand. 'The whole lots to hand sold readily at Is 4d to Is Gd per dozen. Country cured hams and bacon are very scarce. Beeswax.— 9gd to 10^d.
