In the appeal by the National Bank against the decision of the District Court at New Plymouth, Justice Richmond allowed the appeal with costs. Railway Celebration. Wanganui, March 23. An extensive railway line from Waitotara to Waverley u as opened on Tuesday. A public banquet was held in the afternoon at which Messrs Bryce and Ballance, members of the district were present. Strong opinions ip favor of the line being continued northward were expressed by all parties present. Sale of a Wharf. Wellington, March 23. At a special meeting of the City Council it was decided to accept the offer of the Harbor Board to purchase the Queen’s wharf for a sum of £64,000. Caledonian Sports. Dunedin, March 23. Fully 4000 persons were present at the Caledonian Sports, in honor of the Governor. The weather is glorious. Volunteer Deputation. A deputation of volunteer officers waited on the Premier and brought under his notice the injustice done to the corps by the sudden stoppage of the capitation allowance. Mr Hall replied that he would consider their request, but refused .to' pledge himself as to what the Government would do. Tile next Review.
It is now tolerably certain that a grand volunteer review will be held here at Easter. The preliminary arrangements are nearly completed, and everything will probably be settled to-morrow.
