The Te Anau left Sydney on March 17 at 4.30 p.m., cleared the heads at 5.15 p.m.; experienced light variable winds throughout; passed Three Kings at 2.14 p.m. Arrived at Bussell the same day at 11.30 p.m. NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, March 17. Fitzpatrick, leader of the Opposition has resigned. It is expected Mr Forster will take his position. In spite of repeated warnings large numbers are leaving for the Wilcannia diggings. The total quantity of gold brought in during the last three days is 63 ozs. The gold is nuggety and shotty. VICTOBIA, The closing ceremony of the Exhibition will be made as imposing as possible, Tbe Kelly Board bas classified the various claims before them. It has transpired that the capture was not the result of any information given by the police, consequently the whole of the £BOOO will be distributed among the ten concerned at Glenrowan. A deputation from the Cabmens’ Union waited on the Chief Secretary, on Wednesday, their object being to protest against the introduction of tramways. It was stated on behalf of the Union, that they protested on the broad principal of protection ; also, that the convenience of the public, was amply provided for by the present accommodation. Mr Berry said that the protectionist policy was never meant to apply to such cases as this, or the protection of one class at the expense of another. SOUTH AUSTBALIA, The manifesto issued by the Chief Secretary has not re-assured the Protectionists who consider it to imply that the duties will be altered at no distant date, and are taking steps to bring candidates against the Government. Simpson has been asked to stand against the Treasurer, but has not given a reply. Ministers address their constituents next week.
