There is no such liberal division as above given in the colonies for either starters or non-starters. Attention is drawn to the fact that in all the important races, both in Australia and New Zealand, a larse proportion of the horses originally nominated are subsequently struck out of their engagements, and therefore the numbers of non-starters in nearly all other consultations receive but a very trifling and almost infinitesimal amount each, and in many instances; they receive actually less than the amount of their application lee for a non-starter.
