The waxwork exhibition now in Timaru will be on view for the last time this evening, as it is the proprietors’ intention to proceed to Christchurch with it on Monday. Those who have not seen the Kelly Gang in wax and the other celebrities, had better avail themselves therefore of the opportunity of doing so to-night. Believers In phrenology will find the cast of Ned Kelly’s head (taken after his execution) will repay inspection. The London drama “ British Born,” was the attraction at the Theatre Eoyal last evening. • There was a satisfactory attendance considering the unfavorable state of the weather. The play went very smoothly, the performers being well up in their parts. Miss Lilly May made quite a hit as Nancy Treat, and received an ovation from the audience.
A variety of amusing complications have occurred at the Oamaru race meeting. First of all, in the Jockey Club Handicap a protest was entered against Hilarious, on the ground that he did not carry 51bs extra, the penalty alleged to be due through his having won .£IOO at Invercargill since the weights were declared. This difficulty has been referred to the Dunedin Jockey Club. Assuming that the protest is allowed another serious difficulty arises, for Talent, who in that case would be the winner, was entered as a beaten horse for the Consolation, and came in first, Unknown being second. In the London Handicap a protest was entered against the Little Lady colt by the owner of Sultana to the effect that he was not the horse he was represented to be. That, however, has fallen through in conscquense of the owner of the Little Lady colt having omitted to weigh in. Altogether the stewards have had to deal with a singular , comedy of errors,
