There was great difficulty in getting the horses off, owing to the fractiousness of Randwick. At last the starter managed to get his field fairly together, and the flag fell. My Dream was first away, but after a few strides the running was taken up by Monanatiri, who came on in front to the grand stand, when he gave way to Danebury, who was followed by Foul Play, My Dream, On Dit, Randwick, and Mavis in the order named ; Miss Domett, who got badly off at the start being a long way in the rear. At the back of the couse My Dream ran inside a post, and was not persevered with. No change of any moment occurred until half a mile from home, when Foul Play was in difficulties. At the railway turn Randwick began to draw up to the leaders, and alternate cries of “ Dan,” “ Randwick,” went up from the stand. Coming into the straight, Danebury still led, the rest with the exception of Miss Domett and My Dream, being all in a cluster Shortly after Danebury dropped back beaten, followed in a few strides further by Moanatiri. Inside the distance Rudings took Randwick to the front, and although Dan made a determined effort to overhaul him it was without avail, the son of Barbarian and Gipsy Girl with a little in hand, passing the post a length and a half in front of the Wanganui hack, with On Dit half a length away third, Danebury fourth, and My Dream fifth, the rest with the exception of Miss Domett close up.
