An accident occured this morning at P. Cunningham and Co.’s grain store at the foot of Strathallan street. One of the hands named John Laird, was carrying a sack of grain up the plank when he missed his footing and fell, carrying the sack with him. The fall was twenty feet, and had it not been for a wheat screen that was standing below the stack the accident might have proved very serious if not fatal. As it was, fortunately Laird fell right into the hollow of the screen, almost in a sitting posture, and thus broke his fall. The sack tumbled to the ground, and some of the grain was spilt upon the floor, A portion of the top of the wooden screen was broken by the fall. Had it not happened that Laird fell in a sitting posture, instead of across the screen, he would it is thought have broken his back. Although a good deal shaken and bruised, he luckily escaped without breaking any bones. He was at once conveyed to his home.
