DUNEDIN MARKETS.

Mr Donald Stronach Con behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending March 9 as follows: Fat Cattle.—l 69 head were, yarded at Burnside to-day. This' supply being moderate after a similar supply last week, prices showed some improvement on rates then current. Bullocks fetched from £5 5s to £9 2s 6d each, and cows £4 5s 'to £6 15s each.

Fat Calves.—Eighteen head yarded, and sold at 12s 6d to 265. ■

Fat Sheep.—The supply was very small, consisting of 672 crossbreds and 431 merinos, and quotations were decidedly better. Crossbreds realised from 9s to 12s 3d, and merinos 8s to 8s 6d. Fat Lambs.—2l3 were penned, and realised 8s 3d to 1 Is.

Fat Pigs.—Ninety-two sold at frwsa 11s to 40s each. G rain .—Wheat—The weather for bar vesting .has been all that the. farmers could desire, and the crops are being- got in ■ in excellent condition. Very few samples are forward as yet, audit is not easy to say how the market will open. Present appearances indicate lower quotations than have been ruling during the past season, cats —Demand for shipment has continued to a certain extent, but enquiry is not brisk ; while for local consumption there is nothing doing. We quote Ip, 5d to Is 6d for feed oats. Barley—Ther'j are samples of the new crop on the marl :efcj« and transactions have taken place ?.t 2s'Cd to 3s for good to fine malting.

The following; is the report for the week ending Friday evening, March 11, 1881

Nothing has transpired during the week which calls for any special mention, and values are unaltered. Wheat is still being delivered at all the country stations in large quantities. Great praise is due to the Kailway Authorities for the efficient manner in which the grain has been forwarded to the port. A considerable portion of the grain exported this year is on growers’ account. Although the yield has been exceptionally good this continuous drain will soon bare the market. Wheat.—First-class milling samples are being sold at from 3s 4d to 3s 6d; Tuscan, 3s 6d, to 3s 9d, free on board in Lyttelton. Samples of a quality not equal to the foregoing 2d per bushel under these quotations, i Chick wheat ranges from Is 9d to 2s 6d per bushel.

Oats.—Kather a better inquiry is manifest. although prices are not altered. Good stout milling are saleable at from Is 6d to Is 7d per bushel; feed parcels, Is 3d to Is od.

Barley.—Good malting samples are saleable at from 2s 6d to 2s per bushel. Large lines of exceptionally good quality, 3s 3d to 3s 6d per bushel. Second rate malting samples are exceedingly unsaleable. Feed barley, Is, 6d to Is lOd per bushel. Grass seed, continues to be in good demand with more, parcdls offering than Within the two preceding weeks. Well cleaned farmers’ samples are worth from 2s 6d to 3s 6d per bushel, badly cleaned entirely depends on quality. Cocksfoot, , 2id to 2fd per lb, according to quality. Cheese and Butter. —There is no alteration to note in values, the former is worth from 3d to 3£, the latter Bid to 7d per lb.
