LEVELS ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present—Mr Moody (chairman) and all the members.
Considerable discussion took place on thej reported absence of the clerk from his duties. It was resolved that Mr Ollivier, the Government Auditor, be informed that the Board has reason to believe that Mr Barnett has left the.district, and it is desirable that he should audit the accounts to date and report on the matter at once.
The overseer’s report was read and adopted. The Inspector of Nuisance’s report was read, stating that several cases of fever had occurred within his district, but he could not trace the cause to any particular source. Complaint was made of pigs being kept in some portions of the district causing offensive smells. The Inspector was authorised to take summitry proceedings in any locality under the Public Health Act where necessary. A letter nas read from Mr El worthy calling attention to the desirability of opening a road through Jeffcoat’s land to the river Pareora.
Resolved —*• That the Board regrets that in the present state of its funds it cannot undertake the work.” It was resolved—“ That the overseer be appointed clerk to the Board pro tem. Accounts to the amount of £BO lls 8d wore passed, and ordered to be paid, and the meeting adjourned.
