COMMERCIAL.
MELBOURNE PRODUCE MARKET. Messrs McGregor, Gordon and Co., rcpo.it for the week endiug Feb. 23, 1881 • Breadstuff.-; —During the week our market has been relieved of 10,000 tons of wheat, and 1000 tons of flour, 'J he export trade is at 4s Old, for prime parcels f.o.b. ; and 3s 10R1 to 3s lid for good milling, cx station. \Vc experience with others, great difficulty in getting prime samples for export. The careless manner the grain has been cleaned, has been a serious loss to the farmers throughout the Northern districts. We have sold medium Goulburn at 3s t)d ; inferior at 3s 7d, The tendency of the market is weak, and the cablegrams from London and the Continent arc assuring.
Barley.—English is dull of sale at 3s 3d to 3s 4d, sales nominal. Stocks held by the trade are heavy, and there is no inclination to do business at these rales.
Oats.—Victorian feed arc in full supply, at 2s Id to 2s3ld. Milling arc in demand. Victorian 2s 7d to 2s Bd. New Zealand are scarce at 2s 3ld, (in bond) ex Steamer. The London Market is now favourable for this cereal, 30s Gd to 31s per quarter is ruling there. Grass Seeds. —We have cleared our stocks of prarie at 2s 5d to 2s tF I , the lines not being first-class. Cocksfoot and ryegrass—Stocks of clean seed arc unusually small. A demand for forward delivery has set in, but no large transactions have passed. White clover is scarce.
Tobacco Leaf, —Is in active demand at 3.1 dto os d according to the quality of the leaf.
Dairy Produce. —Cheese—The market remains at 41 for prime : good at 31 d to 3 ; ’d ; medium, 21d ; and at these rates wo have nearlv cleared our stock. The export trade is daily relieving our market. Butter, Potted—Special prime dairies we have sold at Gdgood at old. The supplies to hand are small. Or,tier descriptions, and that which has been affected by the late hot weather, wo have sold at prices rancrina from 2d to 3fJ-d. Butter, Fresh.—The supply forward was light. We obtained for the best dairies Sd to lid per lb ; others from 4d to 7d per lb. Honey.—We have cleared our stocks of garden at 5d to old; bush, 3d to Sid. Hams and Bacon.—Country cured ate scarce, and are much enquired for at Gd and 7d for bacon, and 8d for hams. Eggs are at lOd to Is Id.
