The “Daily News” to-day publishes a telegram from Natal stating that information has reached there that an interview has taken place between Sir Evelyn "Wood and M. Joubcrt, commander of the Boer forces, which has resulted in a week’s armistice, /, c., until the 14th iust., being agreed to. In the House of Commons to-day, the Premier was questioned regarding a statement in the “ Daily news ” that a week’s armistice had been proclaimed in the Transvaal. Mr Gladstone, in reply, confirmed the announcement, and added that the armistice had been agreed to, to enable Kruger, the Boer

President, to reply to .conditions of peace which had been submitted to him by Sir Evelyn "Wood. He also further stated that during the time of the armistice, Sir Evelyn Wood would be allowed to revictual the British garrison in the Transvaal. Coercion Defied, Notwithstanding tbs powers vested in the \icnroy by the Coercion Act, the Land League continues in native agitation, and .several meetings under its auspices were held yesterday in Ireland. News has come to hand to-day that an agrarian murder, of a dastardly character has been committed in the County., of Westmeath, Ireland. Trad© Returns. The Boatd of Trade returns for the past month were published to-day. The imports amounted to £36,025,000, being an increase or £3.375,000, compared with the corresponding month of last year. The exports reached a total of £10,812,500, and show an increase of £312,500, under same comparison.
