Ram Pair. The Ham Fair in Carterton on Saturday was a great success. The prices were up to ten guineas higher than anticipated for the stock offered. Burglaries in Christchurch. Christchurch, Fcb. 28. Fairbanks 1 chemises shop in Higli St was broken into on Saturday night and a cash box and till containing a considerable amount of money stolen. An attempt was also made to break into Leaver’s tailor’s shop next door. A Thieves’ Consultation. Dunedin, Feb. 28. A daring robbery occurred at Waters’ Prince of Wales 1 Hotel last night. £175 in cash was stolen from Mrs Waters 1 bedroom. The Three Card Trick. At the City Court Mr Watt convicted Henry Gloater, for playing the three-card trick at the races, but to give the defendant a chance of appealing admitted him to bail, to come up for sentence in a month. Imposition. Thomas Hodges, aged 21, for obtaining money by means of forged cheques, was sentenced to three months. Bondon Wool Sales. Cargill’s wool telegram dated Feb. 25, reports : —Competition fairly animated. Greasy Id per lb lower than at close of last series ; fleece, H- ; scoured, Sale of Yearlings; At the sale of Boorandoora Park yearlings Messrs Mason and Vallanee purchased Tubal Cain—Topsy colt for 225 guineas ; Tubal Cain —Seashell colt for 200 guineas; and Tubal Cain—Debenture colt for 25 guineas. J. Cowan, Cromwell, bought a Saunterer —Stockrise filly for 100 guineas ; Tubal Cain— Argossy filly for 70 guineas. Lurline colt, Flying Dutchman, and Tubal Cain —Coquette colt were passed in for 300 guineas. A Good Exchange. Invercargill, Feb. 28. Mr Pratt resigned the post of Chairman of the Harbor Board and applied for the post of Secretary. There were seventeen other applicants. Mr Pratt was elected.
