The Magisterial Horsewhipping Case.

Styles, for assaulting an ex-magis-trate yesterday, was sentenced to two months hard labor.

A Mystery Solved.
The body of the little girl Emily Jane Moore, who was missed from her home on Feb 13, was found in the River Avon to-day.
Another Fire.
Palmerston, Feb. 23,
A fire broke out at two this morning, in a shop and dwelling in Broad street, the property of Goodison. The premises were totally destroyed. Young Goodison is one of the original proprietors of the Fitzherbert reef, and as the premises were unoccupied they were used last night for burning quartz. Goodison left at 10 p.m„ when all appeared right. The building was insured in the South British for £IOO A Conviction Quashed. Dunedin. Feb. 23. Judge Ward quashed the conviction of Philip McCarthy for illicit distillation at Waihemo. £and for Settlement. The Land Board has decided lo recommend the Government to throw open Run 106 for settlement.
