TFE AUSTRALIANS AT AUCKLAND.

After some pretty play between Spofforth and Slight, in which singles, twos and threes were run up, at 2 o’clock 60 was telegraphed, and 'an adjournment for luncheon took place. On resuming play at 3 o’clock Buckland took Lynch’s end, and the fall of Spofforth’s wicket was the result 64 —4 —30. Spofforth's innings was good throughout. His drives were pretty and clean. Groube came next and scored 12. 93 —5 —12. The South Australian representative took his place at the wickets, but was soon disposed offorO. 97—6—0. Boyle took Jarvis’ Elace, and he and Slight who had been atting well, made it lively for the field. Slight, tempted by a ball from Bobinson, was well caught by Porch. 11G —7 —15. Palmer took his place,and some bad fielding, which resulted in an overthrow, brought 130 up. Mumford caught Boyle at point. 137 —8—24. Moule took his bat, but his partner Palmer, soon left him, having been given out Ibw off Bobinson. 137 —9 —o. Tobin, the last man, put Bobinson away for 4, and the telegraph showed 140. King making a clean catch at the wickets, dismissed Moule and brought the innings to a termination for 144. At 5.30 the Australians took the field, Cox and Testro facing the bowling of Spofforth and Palmer. Testro cut Palmer for a single, but Alexander brought his career to an end by catching him at point off Spofforth. 51 —1. Arniel replaced Testro, but fortune did not favor him, as he was run out by mid-on. 16—2—5. Davis then went in, and shortly 21 was telegraphed. Cox was batting well. The stumps were drawn at 6 o’clock, when the score stood at 28 for two wickets.

Play began at noon with Davies and Cox at the wickets. After a minutes’ play Palmer clean bowled Davies. 63 —33. Cox soon followed, being caught by McDoifnell, after getting 12, By careful play Mumfortl, who followed, was clean bowled by Spofforth’s first ball. Lynch succeeded, and made three singles when he hit his wicket, 6—3--38. Woods, at the other end, who was batting carefully, was joined by, Robinson. Jarvis took a chance smartly and stumped Woods. Stafford, who sue* ceeded him, was clean bowled by Palmer’s first ball. Robinson, who continued getting overs, was joined by McCormick, only to separate, the latter latter sharing the fate of his predecessor. 9-0-55.
