[Pee “Times” Special Wire.] The Te Aroha ZVZurder. Guaiiamstown, Feb 21. This morning, at the Magistrate’s Court, John ProcofH was charged with the wilful murder of Himona Hare at Te Aroha. The police applied for a remand until Thursday. Mr Brassey, who appeared for accused, said there was no evidence to show a prima facie case against the prisoner. He objected to the remand, stating that as Mr Kennell had begun the case he could continue it. The case was heard before Messrs Murray and Skene, Justices of the Peace. Mr Brassey has been threatened witli violence if he defends the prisoner. This intimation was conveyed to him by Pineha, a chief of the Ngatihako tribe.

Embezzlement. Wellington, Feb. 21. William S. Donald, a respectable young man, pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of certain monies belonging to bis employers Messrs Bamatyne and Co., and was sentenced to twelve months with hard labcr. Bad for the Kateyayers. Dunedin. Feb. 21.

The Finance Committee of the City Council recommend an increase of the city rates to eighteen pence.
