TURNBULL’S CORNER.

The corner building at the junction o£ George street and LeCren’s Terrace, occupied by the New Zealand Mortgage and Land Agency Company, has undergone a wonderful transformation at the hands of Mr H. Turnbull. The premises have been divided and partitioned off so as to form a row of neat and attractive shops. As the thoroughfare leads to the railway station the silos arc admirably adapted for business. Mr Turnbull has occupied the corner warehouse with a large stock of general merchandise. The adjacent premises have been fitted up with largo show windows and otherwise handsomely embellished. One of them has been secured by Mr T. Amos, the well known fruiterer. The carpenters have been busy at work for the last week or two effecting certain alterations to the old wooden railway store below the new shops. The portion of the store undergoing alteration is in process of conversion into a big oyster saloon for Mr Price, and the remainder of the erection is to bo pulled down in order, we are informed, to make room for a magnificent block of buildings, which will extend round the corner and face the railway station. The erection of this block, it is said, will cost £150,000, a fact which certainly looks healthy for Timaru.

If there are some buildings which are not mentioned in the present brief notice it is because their construction is not sufficiently advanced, and to describe them would, therefore, bo premature.
