THE AUSTRALIANS AT NAPIER

Very little interest was manifested in the Australian match to-da}', the result being a foregone conclusion. The only hope of the Twenty two was to escape a one innings defeat, but even that was not accomplished, the Eleven winning by an innings and one run. The Twenty-two batted one man short, Gibbons being unable to attend. The Australians were two men short in the Held, their places being filled by volnn teers from the Twenty-two, one of whom, Martin, caught Braith waite. Not one of the Twenty-two reached double figures, Liddle, the top scorer, making only eight. The following are the scores ;
