GOVERNMENT LAND SALE.
A sale of Government lands consisting of town and suburban sections at Ashburton, South Rakaia, Orari, and Arowhenua, was held at Messrs Davies and Winter’s auction rooms, South Rakaia, at noon on Tuesday. There was a moderate attendance, but the bidding was dispirited and the sale could hardly be designated a success. Fourteen sections in South Rakaia were sold out of 25 offered, but only in four instances was the upset of £l2 10s per section exceeded. The whole of the Ashburton sections were sold at prices ranging from £l2 (the upset) to £SO. Twenty sections at Arowhenua were sold at £l2, ten failing to find a bidder. Half the sections at Orari were sold at £0 15s to £7 10s. Six sections at Horndon were offered, but only one was sold. Eleven suburban sections were sold at South Rakaia, the areas being two to live acres, realising £3B to £76. The total sum realised was £lßsl 10s 9d.
