THE JEWISH PERSECUTION.

There has been another sharp debate in the Prussian Parliament on the position and eights of the Jews. Herr von Ludwig introduced a motion to the effect that the Government should cause statistics to be collected, as to the projectors of joint-stock companies, &c., since the passing of the shareholding law, showing their religious and political convictions, and the results of their enterprise. Most of them, it was asserted, would be found to be Jews and swindlers. The motion was ultimately withdrawn, but not until several speakers had given expression to n large amount of bitter ill-will against the obnoxious Semitie race. One orator ventured to associate the name of the Emperor with this barbarous agitation ; while another maintained that the recent protest drawn up by Professor Mommsen was signed by various “ bubble company blowers.” Herr Soruva, who spoke on the other side, was repeatedly interrupted by recriminatory outcries, and was thrice called to order—an incident quite unprecedented in that undemonstrative Assembly. He stated that members of the oldest nobility had been specially mixed up with bubble concerns, but though appealed to to mention their names, he declined to do so. A journal which is supposed to represent the opinions of Prince Bismarck has declared that he entirely disapproves of the outcry of Herr Stocker and his followers.
