R. WILKIN AND CO.’S NEW PREMISES.
SECOND EDITION
A branch of the establishment of Messrs Bobert Wilkin and Co., the well and favorably known importers and wholesale merchants of Christchurch, was opened to-day in Timaru. The premises occupied by the firm are in Strathallan street, opposite Miles Archer and Co.’s. They have been neatly fitted up with private offices, counting house, sample, and store rooms. The business to be conducted will be exclusively wholesale, and the branches will be confined chiefly to the requirements of country buyers. Although the carpenters are still busily at work at the stores, a choice and well assorted stock is already on the ground, and this during the ensuing week will be materially augmented. One of the specialities will be agricultural implements and machinery, the. firm being sole agents for some of , the best English and American manufacturers. Already specimens of the celebrated Osborne Beaper and Binder may be viewed on the premises, and a large quantity of Yankee notions, from portable potato-diggers to lawn mowers that look like elegant toys, may be inspected Another commodity to which.great a.tention will be devoted are grass seeds, and some tons of the finest description of Dutch and American clovers are now. ready for the sower to select from. Patent sheep dip, an article that is wanted for some of our local bodies as much as by our graziers, will be kept in unlimited quantity and of reliable quality. Teas, wines and spirits, groceries and all the ct ceteras required for the supply of farm or station are among the goods that the agency will deal with. Every effort will be made to promote a good barter trade the highest market figure being given for all kinds of farm and station produce, while the lowest figure commensurate with reasonable profits, will be charged for the articles supplied. The firm has been fortunate in securing as their agent one of the best known agriculturists in South Canterbury— Mr Charles Bourn, late of Southbridge. Farmers and others may .therefore, depend upon being fairly and liberally dealt with by a gentleman who practically and theoretically is one of themselves—one whose fortunes and achievements have been associated for a considerable portion of his life with the settlement and progress of this district. We heartily wish Messrs-Bobert Wilkin and Co., and their energetic agent and representative, Mr Bourn, every success in their new local enterprise.
