The Four-oared Gig Race and the Rowing Club’s Race have been postponed -till .Monday. The North Shore gig. was run into by a yacht. The crew were taken on board the steamer Planet. An Auckland boat was swamped on returning ,to the .flagship. The Edith, sailing in the Champion Race, ran into the Plartet, smashing her funnel, steam pipe, and bulwarks, and breaking her own jibhoom. The scene by the people on the Planet was fearful. A number jumped overboard, but they were rescued and the steamer towed to the wharf. The winning gig of the ship Dunloe capsized, and the men swam to the ship. THIS DAY. The champion four-oared outrigger race, postponed on Saturclajq took place this afternoon under fair conditions. The course was 3 miles straight. The prize was £IOO and accompanying trophies. When off Stokes’ Bay the Mercury Bay crew were leading by fully half a mile, but suddenly the boat filled ,and went down. The crew supported themselves as best they could in the water, and u steamer, which accompanied the race, went off to their assistance. The Auckland and Thames crews, in the meanwhile, kept steadily on their course, the former, when passing the coal hulk, having a clean lead of 40 seconds. The Thames put on a spurt, and by dint of better rowing reduced the distance, but not sufficiently to alter th e result. The Auckland crew finished in good style first. General regret was expressed at the mishap that befell the Mercury Bay boat, and if the race is not rowed over again, a challenge will probably be the result. The spectators numbered about 3500,
