Trial of the Cabinet.
The debate on the Address in Reply was resumed in the House of Commons to-day, and lasted during the greater part of the sittings. Lord made an exhaustive speed), in the course of which he severely attacked the Irish Land League and its mode of action. Alluding to the Land Bill which has been introduced by Government, he expressed the opinion that its provisions were founded on the laws of justice to both tenant and landlord. The debate stands further adjourned. Artful Carving. It has transpired that a general agreement exists among the Powers that their Ambassadors at Athens should be instructed to endeavor to persuade the Greek Government to agree to arbitration for the settlement of the frontier difficulty with Turkey.
The Transvaal War of Independence.
The detached squadron is under orders to proceed to the Cape. It is understood that this movement is due to the Boer rebellion in the Transvaal.
Cape Town, Jan. 13
Communication, though of an intermittent character, has again been established between Natal and the Transvaal, and information has heen received regarding the position of the British troops at Potchefstroom. The Boers have laid siege to the place, but the garrison can bold out for a month, having sufficient supplies for that period, and it is hoped that by that time reinforcements will be sent for the relief of the besieged.

Information has been received that the report received yesterday, that a plot had been discovered amongst the natives of Kolapore to assassinate the European residents, is entirely without foundation.
