[Keutee’s Agency.l Only a Bub. Adelaide, Jan. 10. The Chimborazo, which grounded on Troubridge shoal during a thick haze, was successfully floated this morning without injury, and has proceeded to Melbourne. South Sea Butcheries. Sydney, Jan. 10. The brig Mavis has arrived here from the Solomon group, and reports that the captain and crew of the Sydney schooner Zephyr have been massacred, and the vessel plundered and burnt. Brisbane. Jan. 10. A junk has arrived at Cooktown, and reports that the crew of the schooner Prosperity, consisting of nine Chinese, have been slaughtered by the natives of Lincade Island, near New Guinea. The captain of the schooner succeeded in escaping. Bad Stews for a Sydney Journal. Mr Skuthorpe telegraphs from Blackall that be has discovered the grave of Classan, and has also obtained evidence of the fate of Leichardt, the explorer. Overland Bines. The Queensland Government have issued a map showing the routes of the proposed Trans-continental railway to the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the grand trunk line of South Australia, from Bom a, iu this colony. Wool Prizes. Melbourne Jan. 10.
Tbo awards to wool exhibits at the Exhibition were announced to-day. The New Zealand exhibitors take the following prizes :—ln Merinos —Gillon, of Mangotataritu, second. Scoured Merino—Young and Dalgetty, of Omarama, first. Long, scoured —William, of Mangahuhu, second. Long, unwashed Tanner, of lliverslea, second ; Blair, of W'anganui, third. Intercolonial Telegrams. Letters appear in the “ Argus” drawing attention to the disagreement which exists between the New Zealand and New South Wales Governments regarding the tariff for telegraphic messages between Australia and New Zealand. Negotiations for reductions of the tariff, consequent on the departure of the cable-repairing ship and agents from Australia, were proceeding for some time, but finally failed. The New Zealand Government, lias, however, reduced the rates on messages from New Zealand, but the charges from Australia remain at the original rate. The “ Argus,” referring to the communications, supports the proposal which correspondents make, that the matter in dispute between the two Governments should bo referred to the Intercolonial Conference, which meets in Sydney on the 13th inst.
