THE MORTUARY CHAPEL.

[to run K DITCH! J Siu, —Can you inform your readers if the plans for the new chapel at the cemetery lately sent in for competition can be seen in any public place? As public money is concerned, 1 think the plans submitted to the committee should have been placed somewhere for public observation, that is if the competing architects gave their consent. I presume there have" been some six or eight plans sent in, but cannot learn who sent them, what they were like, or what the accommodation is in each plan. In public competitions at home it is usual for each plan to bo criticised by some competent person, and his opinion to be made known, but this appears to be a kind of hole and corner alfair. There is one thing I notice, that that the new building is to be of brick, with Oamaru ' stone dressings ; also, that it is to stand by the side of the house now being erected. Why has the committee chosen a plan with white stone dressings, while the other building has none? Is it to show a contrast, oAvhat ? By the way, if a building of the description given is erected for £doo, including architect’s commission, I think the committee will have a cheap job. Whose plan is second best, and whose is next, &c ? I shall be glad it you can throw any light on the matter. - lom ’ *'■’ GEOIKJE STilliET.
