LATE CAPE NEWS.
[Bv Telegraph.] (Per City of at Auckland.) Capetown, Dec. 10. The Basuto war still drags its slow length along. The colonial forces at Mageteng are continually skirmishing with the enemy, who appear determined not to light openly. On Friday week a successful attack was made on 800 rebel Tambookics by Nesbit with 180 men. They killed 100 rebels, and captured a quantity of live stock. The casualties on our side are not serious. Ollieial returns show that the available forces, aggregate 1286 European infantry, 71 bo European mounted men, 20b Hottentots, and‘Jßbo natives, or 1(1,4:72 men in all, with 10 Held pieces and 2 mortars. No idea as to the probable duration of hostilities can be formed. The situation in the Transvaal is serious. The Dutch Republicans arc clamoring for the restoration of their country. Troops are being concentrated in readiness to suppress any revolt.
