There wr s a crowded house at the Theatre Boyal on Saturday night, to witness the performance of ‘ His Last Legs, and the laughable farce of ‘ Sarah’s young man,’ by the members of the Waimate a.V.Bi Club, acting in conjunction with Mr T. J. Kennedy, of this town. Mr Kennedy made a capital Felix O’Callaghan the rest of the cast being fairly filled. A musical interlude followed, in which Mr Kennedy sang two of his Irish songs, in a way that brought down the house. Miss Vernon also sang. Tire amusing little piece, ‘ Sarah’s young man,’ brought the performance to a close. Mr D. Mitchell appeared with much success as Sarah s young man, and Miss Kate Anderson as Sarah the fascinating housemaid, also created a very favorable impression. The entertainment was a really enjoyable one throughout.

At the Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, an inebriate was dismissed with a caution by tbo presiding Magistrate—Mr E. G. Stericker. John McCoy, on a similar charge and for wilful damage to private property belonging to Mr J. Callanan, of the Shamrock Hotel, and John Stewart, f/li'is David Grey, alias McKillop, charged with vagrancy, were remanded till tomorrow. The New Year’s Day sports at Dunedin, had to he postponed owing to the weather. At Wellington showers fell, and the sports were a partial failure. The racing meeting at Picton, Hawkes Bay, was a poor affair. Altogether Tiinaru seems to have been favored by the clerk of the weather in an exceptional way, the showers that made New Year’s Day a failure in other places only reaching this district on Sunday morning.

The settling up on Friedlandcr's sweep on the Champion takes place to-night at. S. Mr W. Hislop advertises for bi-wcckly supplies of butter and eggs. Mr S. S. Bannister, pharmaceutical chemist., announces that he has taken over the Tiraaru Apothecaries Hall. Mr Ghas. Bourn has been appointed agent for the celebrated Osborne Reaper and Binder.

Mr Jas. Parsons of the Tiinaru foundry, notifies his appointment as agent for Wood’s well known Reapers and string or wire binders, Mr Duncan Scott invites tenders for tying and stocking on the Parcora estate. Mr J. F. Wilson, architect, invites tenders for alterations and additions to building in Great North road. Mr P. McArdlc, local agent for the Brunner , Company, Greyxnouth, informs us that he is now prepared to sell Greymouth coal, in any quantity, in Tiinaru and suburbs. The depot is in Barnard street. An announcement in reference to this fuel will by found in our advertising coinxxns. The Groymouth coal is recommended as being the most economical and cleanly, and the best heat and light-giving coal yet discovered in New Zealand.
