[Reuter’s Agency.j Financial Prosperity. London. Jan. 1. The revenue returns for tbe December quarter show a million increase The Irish Revolution. Land meetings which were to be held in Ireland on Saturday and Sunday har« been prohibited. Flying columns are traversing the country to prevent any attempt that may be made at night drilling. Owing to the excitement which is prevailing in Dublin in consequence of the trial of the Laud Leaguers, extra military preparations are being made in the city for the preservation of order. Severe Weather. Very heavy snowstorms have fallen in England during the past few days,
and in many districts serious floods Lave resulted on the breaking; up of the frost. Considerable loss of property has occurred, and, owing to the extreme cold, much distress has been experienced by the poorer classes. The Cape Rebellion. Cape Town, Dec. 31. A report comes to hand to-day from the Transvaal that the Boers have followed up their recent successes by occupying Pretoria, the capital town. The rumor, however, requires confirmation. Latest intelligence to hand from tlie Cape states that the Boers have abandoned Utrecht. The garrison at Standeston and Walkersbroom are stx’ongly entrenched and well supplied. Large bodies of troops are marching to the Iront. Preparing; for the Worst. Constantinople, Jan. 1. The Porte is engaged massing a hundred thousand troops on the Greek frontier, in preparation for probable hostilities. Frozen Joints on the Tramp. Suez, Dec. 30. The steamer Protos, with a cargo of meat, has arrived here, homeward bound from Melbourne. Refrigerators at a Discount. New' Yokk, Dec. 31. Intense cold continues to be experienced throughout the States, and heavy snowstorms have fallen in many parts.
