MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the Chief Post Office Timaru, for the following places (subject to tlie necessary alterations) as under : Saturday, Dec. 25. For Northern Ports of New Zealand, per Penguin, at 2.50 p.m. Monday, Dec 31. For Chatham Islands, per Omaha, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec 25 (Chiistmns Day) being a Post Office .holiday, Post Offices in the postal distiict of Timaru will be closed on that day. Local mails usually despatched on Saturday will be closed on Friday, Dec 23, at 8 p.m The Chief Post Office, Timaru will be open to the public on Friday evening from 8,30 to 0 30 p.m for the deiiveiy of letters from the delivery department, also those usully delivered by the letter earners. The next mail for the United Kingdom via San Francisco, will close at the Chief Post Office, Timaru, on Friday, Dec. 31, and will be due in Loudon, on Jan. 15, 1881.
