TIMARU CATHOLIC BOYS’ SCHOOL.
Master—A. K. Harlock, B.A. (Cantab, graduated with honors.) The annual distribution of prizes at the above institution took place to-day in the presence of a large number of pupils and their friends. Father Chataignier conducted the proceedings, and distributed the awards, which consisted of certificates of merit, the cards being beautifully designed by M. de H. ] iuval and lithographed at the “Lyttelton Times’’oflice. The certificates were divided into three classes executed in purple and gold, blue and
gold, and green respectively. They were awarded in accordance witli (lie general rim of work done, three being given to each class. The school was rendered gay with specimens of penmanship and maps executed by the pupils. Some of tbe maps were particularly creditable, especially those performed by Masters C. Wilson, Albert Muller, I*, lloare, James Wilson, and Matthew Quirk. A very beautiful specimen of penmanship'exhibited was the work of Charles Wilson, aged ]B, son of Mr Andrew Wilson, of Saltwater Creek.
After the boys bad assembled, the Rev Father Chataignier addressed a few words of congratulation to the boys who had successfully passed the examination, and also of encouragement to those who had not been fortunate enough to attain the number of scores snllicient to warrant their carrying off the handsome ccrtilicate. Both the Rev Pastor and Master hoped that they would one and all do their utmost, whereby they would attain the best results. The Rev Father Chataignier then handed to each of the boys who had obtained first, second, and third places in (he several classes, their certificates, according to merit, at the same time addressing a few kindly words to each.
