[lleuteb’s Agency.] A Narrow Squeak. Meleoukxe, Dec. 14. The Legislative Council has negatived Dr L. L. Smith’s vote of want of confidence in the Ministry by a small majority, the numbers being 44 against and 33 for the motion. Sir Bryan O’Loghlen, Sir J. O’Shannassy, and Mr McKean voted against the Ministry. Sydney, Dec. 2. Old Stagers Recaptured. Three camels which belonged to the Burke and Wills expedition in 1.800-61, have been captured near AVilcannia, on the Darling river, in the north-west of this colony. Bad for Depositors. Bkisdane, Dec. 14. The Queensland Banks have reduced their interest on deposits to 2, 3 and 4 per cent for 3,6, and 12 months respectively. .Their rates of discount have been reduced to 0, 7 and 8 per cent; for 3 4 months, and beyond respectively. The Trans-continental Railway. ■ The Ministry have received a telegram this afternoon from an inllucntial London tirm promising cordial co-operation in pushing forward the transcontinental railway project. It further states that the present time is considered favorable for that purpose.
