A match was commenced on Saturday between eleven of the Timaru C.C. and 13 chosen from the Mechanics and Crusaders club resulting in Timaru obtaining 128 for their first innings and the fifteen scoring 45 for eight wickets. The match will be resumed next Saturday. An accident which might have been serious occurred on the breakwater about 10 o’clock this forenoon. One of the hands employed named West, was driving a pair . of horses attached to a truck laden with a thirty ton block. At the point where the horses are detached the hooks failed to separate, and West coming in collision with the block, was knocked down. Fortunately he fell just outside the rail, and although his face was severely cut, and his wrist partly crushed by the wheels, he escaped without very serious injuries. Dr Lovegrove attended to his wounds. In connection with the Congregational Church, a soiree and public meetir g will take place in Mr Henry Green’s store opposite Beswick street, to morrow evening, for particulars, see advt.
