INQUEST.
An inquest was held at the Bush fnr? r Geraldine, this morning before R. Beetham, Esq., Coroner, and a jury touching the death of William Patrick, tho;infant son of a laborer, residing at Kakahu, who was drowned on Monday last in the Kakahu River. Sarah patrick deposed, that she was the wife of A. Patrick, labourer, and that the deceased was their son, 18 months old. The child was in the. house about 2.30 p.m. on Monday, when ha went out and witness followed im about ten minutes, but could not find! him anywhere. Charles Scobie, dairy farmer, living: at Kakahu, stated that on Monday,. Dec. G, he searched for the missing; child, but was unable to find it. Presently saw it in the river and recovered the body. The house was fenced in, but the child could get through the wire. Three children had been recently drowned in the same way.
A verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
