S. C. Times Office. Monday Evening. Messrs Wildie, Allan, and Stumbles report •for the week as follows Cattle—The demand for all kinds and classes of stores is stijl very active. Fat cattle are abundant, all orders being easily supplied. Their transactions have been 7 oows ar £7 10s, and 12 bullocks at £8 18s, the average besng perhaps slightly over 25s per lOOlbs. During the week they have placed privately and sold by auction, 105 head of store . steers and heifers, ■ from 16 months to 3 ycais. at from £2 17s 6d to £5 12s Od; 4 cows in milk and in calf, at from £5 10s to £9 l's. Sheep—There is an unprecedented demand for cross-bred stores. We sold 1600 hoggets,, nux“d sexes, at top prices; 500 croSs-breds (fat) at 8s 6d, and 300 merino ewes at 4s 6d. Winchester Fair—The regular monthly fair held on Dec. 1, was not so well attended as usual, and a marked dullness in the bidding was noticeable throughout the sale, still all the stock sold brought full market rates. Their transactions were—s calves, at 27s 6d ; 28 steers, 2 to 3-year-old, at £5 12s 6d ; 120 cross-bred store ewes, at Ts 3d, and 85 fat do, at 8s 6d. Horses—There is little os »e> demand for horses. At their yards on Saturday 15 of all classes were entered, a few of which found purchasers at prices considerably less than late quotations. Those sold brpught, for draughts, from £2l to £26 ; hacks and light harness horses from £l3 to £l6; a spring cart was sold for £ls, and wagon, for £2B. Messrs William Collins and Co. report holding their weekly market and sale by auction on Saturday last at their rooms. The attendance was over the average, with an equal proportion of buyers for all lines submitted. They quote:—Hams, 9d per lb; all faults, 5d to 6d ; bacon, 7£d to 8d per lb ; butter, (3d to 4d per lb., market glutted; Akaroa cheese, 4Jd to ajd per lb; potatoes, they cleared the rooms at 30s per ton, bags in; flour, farmers’, £7 per ton; millers, £10; bran, £3 10s ; pollard, £3 15s; oats, good feed. Is 3d per bushel; fowls’ wheait, a' good sample, 5s to 6s per sack ; fowls, none offering; turkeys, 9s per pair ; sheepskins (half-breds), Is 6d each; hidesv to 3d per lb ; boxes tea, 16s to 18a ;■ white sngar, No 1, 4.Jd ; No 4d per lb; jams, 5s 6d to 6s 6ii doz;. herrings, 7s per dozen: saJ.csyjUh 8s 6d; sperm candles, 7+ per lb,, Household furnrtture, china ana gbvjsware, boots, drapery, and a large assortment o| oddments, they succeeded in placing- at owners* instructions. Wellington, Dec. 4. Mr Campbell reports New potatoes (last week's shipment), 4s 6d to 5s 3d, the supply having been far in excess of demand ; oranges, 10s to 11s; apples, 9s; cherries, 5s to 6s; gooseberries, 5d to 6d ; green peas, 6d to 7 Ad; fowls, 3s 6d; cheese, 4d to 4§d ; fresh butter, 3d to 4d ; eggs, no demand, 10.1; bacon and hams, 6d to 8d ; onions, 3d per lb; peanuts, chick wheat, 3s; oats, 2s to 2s 3d.
