The sum of £4OO has been subscribed by the rowing public of England towards the £IOOO required for the proposed race on the Thames between Hanlon and Laycock, to take place in six weeks time. Hanlon has consented to wait until Tuesday for the balance of the money and if it is subscribed the race will be arranged. If Laycodc wins the money will be returned to the donors. Nov. 29. Earl Dufferin, British Ambassador at St. Petersburg!), returns to Russia with instructions to arrange with Russia the questions which have been the subject of negotiation between Russia and England.
