[Reuter’s Agency.] The Conference. . Melbourne, Dec. 1. The Conference now sitting is making satisfactory progress with regard to border duties and the Chinese question. Dec. 2. William Herbert, bootmaker, late of Footscray, Victoria, who shot his sister-in-law, Jane - Messenger, at Finsbury Park, and afterwards attempted to commit suicide has been tried for murder, convicted, and sentenced to death.
