A proclamation has been issued rr the Patelere land, and it appoints a silting of the Land Court at Cambridge on January 25th, at which one block of 240.000 acres will be adjudicated upou. The Court will also deal with lands at Hokianga, AVangarhei, Thames, Taupo, Pay of Plenty, Toledo Pay, Olaki, AAhuiganui, and Patea. The- Government have scheduled blocks of about one million acres in area, with regard to which they will proceed undo - the Native Land Act, 1877, in order to set aside land equivalent to the Govt, advances from the dale of the orders of the Court. Hotel ‘.Destroyed. Naimhu, Nov. 25. A hotel at Tc Auto was totally destroyed by fire last night. The building was insured for £3OO in the National and £3OO in the Union, of which the Standard holds £2OO. A Spurious Claim. The claim of Solomon, AttorneyGeneral of Fiji, to several sections in Napier, reported some time back, has engaged all the lawyers hero cither for or against. The investigation shows that Solomon conveyed the land 21 years ago to G.Sheddon, and the owners of the sections have been consequently put to considerable expense for nothing. Accident to a Bather. 'Wellington, Nov. 2-3. A young man named Hartry met with, a serious accident last night. He jumped oil; a spring board at the baths and struck ids head on the . bottom. Hartry was taken to the hospital and lies in a precarious condition. Alleged Smuggling’. Charges are to be laid against the captain,and steward of the ship Wairoa for alleged smuggling of a quantity of tobacco ami cigars. The cases will be heard this afternoon. O’Hag-p.n’s Victory. A deputation from Port Chalmers waited on Air Oliver yesterday rc stoppage of the Pailway workshops at Port Chalmers. .Mr Oliver replied that owing to circumlocution ‘ and other causes the work at present was carried on at a dead loss, Recently. some work was done there for 2.U1 per lb, fur which J 1 cl was offered ; and in another case, for the Albion’s shafts sld was charged, when 11 Id had been paid in Melbourne lor the same woi’k.
