MR JONES, M.H.R.
The “North Otago Times” of today has the following : —“ The' Man in the Street ’ avers that he has good authority for stating that Mr Jones, fie junior member for Waitaki, intends to send in his resignation to the Speaker of the House of llepresentatives at an early date.” We arc in a position to state that the “ Man in the Street ” is time completely astray in his reckoning, and* we arc astonished that a journal like our contemporary should resort to such dastardly and contemptible tactics in its efforts to injure a political opponent. In tin’s instance the wish is evidently “ father to the thought.” The unpardonable crime, of youth may lie against the junior member for Waitaki, but so long as he enjoys the confidence of his constituents, he can afford to treat the mean sneers and false predictions of the “ Man in the Street” with merited derision. Mr Jones, M.H.H., has yet to win his spurs, and if we are not mistaken he will make his mark on the field of politics before he thinks of retiring from the contest.
