[Per “Times” Special Wire.l The Pattere Block. Auckland, Nov. 20. The statement that Government will £ive special facilities to the Pattere Land Company to acquire the Pattere block is officially denied. The Land Court will sit on January 20, when blocks equivalent to Government advances will be set aside. Any persons, whether connected with the Land Company or not, will then be at liberty to enter into negotiations with the natives. The Te Aroha Goldfield. Te Aroha has been proclaimed a goldfield, and the proclamation will be brought into operation next Thursday. The Government have received no precise intimation as to the nature of the powers conferred on Sir A. Gordon under the High Cominissioncrship. This will only be ascertained on his arrival. The Governor will reside in Wellington. There is no sign of the Dame with the Governor. Serious Accident to a Priest. Naim kk, Nov. 20. The Rev Father liegner, while driving into town this morning to the convent, was thrown oil his buggy, striking his head against the stone wall of the convent, and was injured to such an extent that he is not expected to recover. The greatest anxiety prevails in town, as the old gentleman, who is 70 years of age, was universally beloved. The Vice Regal Welcome. Wellington, Nov. 20. Tbe regatta committee arc arranging for a procession of boats on the arrival of the new Governor. The Young Mens’ Christian Association have decided to address a letter of welcome to him, on his lauding. Fatal Results of Mental Overwork. Edward Fergoh, who lately passed his examination as solicitor, and was admitted in Wellington, but whose brain became affected, died this morning. On being released from the asylum in Wellington be came to Nelson, but was committed to the asylum there at ouce. He inflicted self injuries last night, which proved fatal this morning. A Troublesome Maori Prisoner. Chuistchuikjh, Nov. 20. One of the Maori prisoners who was recently very troublesome on Ripa Island, was removed in irons to Lyttelton gaol this morning. An Inauspicious Start. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received cable advice that their chartered ship Araby Maid, which loft London for Otago on Nov. 17, lias gone ashore at Deal. The passengers and crew are all saved.
