BAILIFF OF HIS OWN PROPERTY.
A case of a “gentleman farmer" evicted for non-payment of rent and put buck into his mansion us u caretaker, came before the Bankruptcy Court at Dublin recently. The case is thus reported in the Dublin newspapers “ In re James I!. Sadlier.—The bankrupt was a gentleman farmer residing at Brookville, County Tipperary. _ The present sitting was for final examination, lie deposed that on the occasion of his marriage in February of the present year, lie assigned to trustees all J 1 O . Ins propert}', real and personal, for a term of ninety-nine years, to raise £SOO a-year for Mrs Sadlier. That deed included eleven denominations of laud, certain race horses, stock, and furniture. Previous to the deed of settlement his cows were let on a dairy contract at £ls a head, and the ‘ rent’ had been paid to him. The furniture at Brookville belonged in part to his mother and sisters. He had not interfered with the messenger of the Court in the taking of an inventory, but being merely a caretaker for the landlord, who had seized everything under a decree for rent, he, acting under legal advice declined to give any assistance. Judge Walsh said it was a most complicated case, but the assignees were entitled to take an inventory of everything in the bankrupt’s house, which would not affect their ownership one whit. Mr Sadlier said he would not interfere ; but he should like to know how he stood as regarded the landlord, who had placed him in Brookville as caretaker. Judge Walsh — 1 If the landlord interferes I will .send him to gaol ; I don't care who he is—even if he were Lord Oranmore.’- - (Laughter.) Mr Sadlier—‘l think the landlord is in Algiers just now.’ Judge Walsh—‘Then he cannot interfere.’”— “ Times."
