The race between Laycock and Ilosmer, the American sculler on the Thames, resulted in favor of the Australian, Betting at the start was 2to 1 on Laycock. Ilosmer led for a mile and a quarter, when Laycock passed him, and kept the lead to the finish. An indictment has been drawn up against live members of Parliament, named Parnell, Dillon, Biggar, Sullivan, and Sexton. It charges them with conspiring to prevent payment of rents, enforcing of legal process, and letting of farms ; also, with exercising coercion and a genera! system of terrorism. Earl Malmesbury was married at Ely cathedral to Miss Hamilton a lady aged 21.
