At the R.M. Court this morning before 11. Beetham, Esq., R.M., ami T. W. Hall, Esq, J.l’., John McDermott, who was arrested by Detective Kirby at Saltwater Creek, was charged with robbery with violence from the person of George Anderson. The police being unprepared to go on with the case asked for a remand. The accused was remanded until to-morrow morning. That most amusing lecturer Mr J. P, Armstrong, better known under the sobriquet of the Irish Pilgrim, has kindly consented to deliver a lecture at the Theatre Royal tomorrow evening in aid of the funds of the Mechanics’ Institute. The subject of the ‘ Pilgrim’s’ lecture will be the early days of the gold-fields. The price of admission is very small, and coupling this with the fact of Mr Armstrong’s popularity, and also the object of the entertainment, there should be a bumper house.
