Mr Stout, on behalf of the bar, on the conclusion of the business at the District Court to-day expressed regret at Judge Harvey’s retirement, saying that he was surprised that Government should have seen fit to remove a District Judge whose appointment was always regarded as a life one. His Honor in reply said that he intended re-entering the profession. He could not help thinking that an unusual course had been adopted by Government, particularly when he saw senior officers of the court displaced and juniors retained. The Month’s Revenue. The month's revenue amounts to £31,354, showing a falling off of £2301* for the corresponding month in 1879. Sale of School Endowments. Invercargill, Oct. 30. The Southland High School Board of Governors, have resolved to sell endowments to the extent of 19,000 acres. They have given notice to the tenants.
