A FAST LOCOMOTIVE.
A passenger engine, built chiefly for speed, has just been finished at the Baldwin Locomotive Works, for use on the Bound Brook route between New York and Philadelphia. It is intended to make the distance —ninety miles—in 90 min. Its driving wheels are Gift in diameter, and there is but one pair. The weight of the engine is 81,0001bs ; and its water tank holds ROOOgal. The dimensions of ordinary passenger engines are : —Driving wheels, sft to Sift; weight, 70,0001 bto 75,000; capacity of water-tank, 2,ooogals to 2,500ga1.
